Watch a great video of the choir

Edelweiss Club Choir
You could call the choir the heart and soul of the club. Under the direction of Don Sikkema and accompanist Brandon Spence, their renditions of old-country songs, some of them poignant, some of them rousing, will move you, and have you humming along! The Edelweiss Choir gives 3 main performances: the Grand Rapids Festival of the Arts (in June), Oktoberfest West Michigan (in September), and a Christmas concert at St. Mary's. Occasionally they will sing in retirement homes and other festivals. This past January 2008, they also sang at the Van Andel Public Museum's Ethnic Heritage Festival, which by the way was a ton of fun for the whole family.

The choir is looking for new members now, so if you love German music and can carry a tune reasonably well, consider joining!  The practice schedule is not too rigorous, as most members also have work schedules. Call Linda at (616)490-1866 or Mary at (616)245-8135 if you are interested.

Sailors Ahoy Choir
The Sailors are an offshoot of the Edelweiss Club Choir and if you can picture a bunch of burly dudes singing northern German songs of the sea, you get the idea! Accompanied by an accordion and guitar, machismo permeates the atmosphere when these fellas take the stage. The sailors sing at the Grand Rapids Festival of the Arts, the Dutch Heritage Festival, and at Evening in Hamburg, a special cultural evening put on by the the Edelweiss Club, dedicated to the food, beer, music and dancing of Northern Germany. The sailors are also looking for new members - call Gerhard at (616)248-4676 if you are interested.
